Reconstruction and extension of the castle "Schloss Sonnenstein"

End of 2007 the county Saxon Switzerland-Osterzgebirge acquired Castle “Schloss Sonnenstein” from the Free State of Saxony with the goal of rehabilitation and conversion to the seat of county government. Historical importance, archaeological and historic monument nursing value and the urban dominant position on the mountain above the town Pirna are characteristics of the outstanding importance of the ensemble for the district.

The existing building will be rehabilitate. The extraordinary historical relevance of the place with overlays from different eras and uses will be experienced with the reconstruction and updated by the necessary amendments and the new use of modern means. Construction work began in January 2009. The entire reconstruction was completed in 2012. The project were realized as a PPP project with the construction and services group Bilfinger Berger.
